Captain America: The Winter Soldier Review

It's Captain America vs Crossbones vs Winter Soldier vs Agent Sitwell vs Robert Redfor- Wait, What?

You just won't know who to trust when it comes to Captain America 2...

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS

So Captain America was released last week in the USA and two weeks ago everyone else in the world got the chance to see it. Now I'm gonna keep this review short and sweet, because this is one film I do not have to waffle about...

In short, if you are interested in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and/or would like to see future Marvel movies and/or are interested in seeing Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron, then seeing this film is ESSENTIAL. The revelation that S.H.I.E.L.D had been infected with evil H.Y.D.R.A agents since day dot was a major twist and one that resonates throughout the entire Marvel universe. Nick Fury, Agent 13 and Maria Hill have disbanded from the company which has now disappeared into the abyss.

Scarlet Johansson RULES as Black Widow and we need a Natasha Romanoff movie. Colby Smulder's Maria Hill was much more impressive than in Marvel's Avengers and had a lot more screen time. Nick Fury played by Samuel L Jackson was so good, and was surprisingly understated and refreshingly cool in the film. My favourite part in fact was the dramatic first car chase between S.H.I.E.L.D and Nick himself. Sharon Stone aka Agent 13 was decidedly underwhelming however, but her move to the CIA and her minor role here surely sets her up for a more prominent role in Captain America 3, set for a Summer 2016 release.

Anthony Mackie surpassed expectations as ex-soldier The Falcon...

The character of Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier was also very well implemented, and I cannot wait for us as an audience to learn more about him and watch him become the anti-hero he was in the original comic book storyline. Robert Redford, Hollywood Legend, was great in the film, and was perhaps a villain that was genuinely unpredictable. On a side-note, Jenny Agutter (Sister Julienne in Call the Midwife, among other things) was excellent in her few scenes, and though I'm sure her fight was a stint double's job, it was pretty bad-ass.

In conclusion, Marvel is on a roll with the excellent spy-thriller that is The Winter Soldier, it is truly amazing, and I haven't even spoken yet about the amazing Falcon portrayed by Anthony Mackie. The end credits scenes will be reviewed seperately on a later date. This film is essential viewing for Marvel fans, and really it is an immensley enjoyable action film that will please grown-ups, teens and kids alike. HAIL HYDRA!
