JG Review's Top 5 Nintendo Easter Eggs

It's round two of our thematically appropriate feature! This time, James is delving into Nintendo's past, present and future to uncover some truly super video game Easter Eggs!

Here we go!

5 - Malon and Talon - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64/Wii Virtual Console/3DS)

Starting us off are two characters from the beloved Nintendo 64 title The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Malon, as you may recall, is the charming ranch girl who teaches you Epona's Song midway through the game. There is something wierd with her pendant though...Bowser? Carrying on the demon turtle theme is her ranch worker father Malon, who not only bears the same charm, but also bears a striking resemblance to Japan's favourite plumber...

4 - Cheep Cheeps Galore - Lego City: Undercover (Wii U/3DS)

Traveler's Tales have also been referencing our beloved Mario franchise, but this time in the popular Lego City: Undercover, recently released on Wii U and 3DS. Not only can you spot multiple plastic Cheep Cheeps swimming around in-game, but power stars, warp pipes and mushrooms all have their fifteen minutes of fame too. This is why we love Lego people...

3 - Zelda References - Super Mario 3D World and Land (3DS/Wii U)

The two entries into the 'Super Mario 3D ____' series, World and Land, have both features rather large Zelda references. In fact, the 3DS title featured an entire stage that had a top-down viewpoint and players were even treated to the familiar jingle that Zelda is well known for when they unlocked a Hylian-style treasure chest. Good on ya Mario!

2 - Let Us Take A Selfie - The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (Wii U)

Ok, so maybe this isn't as hidden as the rest of the Easter eggs we have discussed so far, but it is just as awesome! When you have obtained the PictoBox, Link is gifted with the ability to take stunning black and white photographs of the post-flood Hylian landscape. What many don't know however, is that a simple tap of X allows Link to switch the view of the camera and take many a selfie. He can even pull out multiple facial expressions to suit the themes of his surroundings!

1 - Robotic Operating Buddy - Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart DS (Wii/DS)

This in itself is not an Easter Egg for those unaware of R.O.B. and his illustrious past, but for those who did, unlocking their favorite cyborg was a joyful occasion while progressing the Super Smash Bros. Brawl and the beloved Mario Kart DS. R.O.B. originally appeared in 1985 as an accompaniment to the Famicom (or NES as it was known here in the Western world). Games could be played with him and he quickly became a fanboy favorite all over the globe. Thanks to Nintendo though, the Noughties hosted a R.O.B. renaissance, and his robotic soul lived on a while more...
