Top 7 Superhero Films You Need To See in 2017 | Wonder Woman, Batman, Spider-Man and More!

Holy smokes, Batman! The second of our three Top Ten lists is now up!

As was previously explained in our list of the top 4 animated films you simply cannot miss in 2017, this year brings us so many anticipated films that they simply cannot be fit into a singular Top Ten list. For this reason, we have split them up into 3 different lists, with the final, explosive finale of our Top Ten trilogy being released on Sunday! But enough of the future, let's focus on the list at hand- but, hang on now...what's that? A bird? A plane?
7. The Lego Batman Movie

No, it's the Batman! This pseudo-sequel to 2014's magnificent The Lego Movie revolves around everyone's favourite caped crusader as he stumbles through the crowded Lego universe created by Warner Bros. Animation Studios. It's advertisement campaign has been self-referentially bonkers so far, and with characters including but not limited to Alfred, the Joker, Bane, Robin, Officer Gordon, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg, Harley Quinn, Two Face and Batgirl showing up, The Lego Batman Movie seems destined to be one of the most action-packed and dynamic super hero movie of all time. Need more convincing? MARIAH CAREY IS VOICING THE MAYOR OF GOTHAM. You're welcome.

The Lego Batman Movie comes out in the USA and in the UK on February 10th 2017.

6. Justice League

In any other universe the historical first appearance of the Justice League on the silver screen would be the most anticipated motion picture event in geek history. Unfortunately for Warner Bros. though, (and their DC Comics division), the DC Extended Universe hasn't had it as easy as Marvel Studios when it comes to making quality cinematic tent-poles. Man of Steel was received to a lukewarm critical reception while Batman V Superman and Suicide Squad were both so shockingly abysmal to so many that WB can't quite afford to take another hit in the cinematic arena. Box Office wise, though, the company are sailing on steady seas, and it is hoped that Justice League (which sees Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg team up to take down a supernatural enemy), will inject the franchise with a much needed energy boost.

Justice League comes out on November 17th 2017.

5. Thor: Ragnarok

Let's hop over, now, to Marvel's Cinematic Universe, where we catch up with whatever Thor was getting up to during last year's Captain America: Civil War. This final installment in Chris Hemsworth's clunky Thor trilogy hopes to redeem his struggling franchise as acclaimed director Taika Waititi (What We Do In The Shadows, Hunt For The Wilderpeople) take the reigns. The film takes place on the backdrop of the Asgardian apocalpyse - known as Ragnarok in Norse Mythology - with Cate Blanchett's Hela (the Asgardian goddess of death, naturally) leading the attempt to destroy the royal realm that Thor calls home. Oh yeah, in case you were interested, this movie also features Mark Ruffalo's the Hulk and Doctor Strange (who will, according to rumour, help Thor to discover the location of Odin who was shunned by Loki at the end of Thor 2).

Thor: Ragnarok comes out on October 23rd 2017.

4.  Spider-Man: Homecoming

Yes, this may be the third time that Spider-Man has been rebooted for the big screen but fear not! This time it is not Sony Pictures pulling the behind the scenes strings but Marvel Studios. Homecoming sees Spider-Man struggle to fit in as a nerdy teen in a high school just blocks away Stark Tower. With Marvel Studios having partially regained the rights to the character, Peter Parker really has come home. Likened to a John Hughes movie, this film will see the youngest version of Spidey yet face off against Michael Keaton's The Vulture, an evil super-villain who utilizes alien technology harvested from the rubble of the battle of New York (featured in 2012's Avengers: Assemble). Here's hoping this film gets Parker ready enough to face Thanos in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War due in 2018. The film also stars the rising star Zendaya, as well as Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr. who reprises his role as Iron Man/Tony Stark.

Spider-Man: Homecoming comes out on July 7th 2017.

3. Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2

After the original Guardians of the Galaxy was released in 2014 both critics and audiences were dumbstruck at its magnificent ability to mix comedy, nostalgia and action. James Gunn returns, then, with the chance to replicate the original's magic and attempt to make the GotG trilogy the finest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thus far. This time round Gamora, Groot, Rocket, Drax and Chris Pratt's Star Lord are also joined by the character of Mantis, an Asian superhero who can read minds. Promised by Pratt to be pure cinematic spectacle, GotG: Vol. 2 has the potential to be the best superhero film of all time, never mind of 2017. Regardless of its critical success though, any time spent with Baby Groot is time spent wisely.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 comes out on April 28th 2017.

2. Logan

In perhaps a similar way, Logan too could be one of the most exciting, emotional and brutal Marvel films of all time, at least if the advertisement campaign is anything to go by. Set 20 years after the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past, this film sees Wolverine haunted by mysterious events that have taken place in between that film and this one. As he cares for a dementia riddled Professor Xavier (the brilliant Sir Patrick Stewart reprises the role), Logan encounters a young mutant girl with striking similarity to himself. Based on the epic graphic novel Old Man Logan, Logan is the final X-Men film of Hugh Jackman's career, the 48 year old announcing his retirement from the role in 2016. Promising to be genuinely moving, this is one Wolverine film that really should not be missed.

Logan comes out on March 3rd 2017.

1. Wonder Woman

The film that made the top of my list is Wonder Woman, which just so happens to be the first female-led super hero film of the modern era (yes, it really has taken 17 years). Starring the impeccably cast Gal Gadot, Wonder Woman chronicles for the first time ever on the silver screen the warrior princess' origin as she travels from the idyllic Themyscira to the world of man in the midst of World War One. Promising feminist action, mythological references and stunning cinematography, Wonder Woman doesn't just make history - it makes the top of this list.

Wonder Woman comes out on June 2nd 2017

What did you think of my list? Are you in agreement with my set order or would you suggest that certain films be moved around? Let me know in the comments below and check out more of our Top Ten features here!
