Captain America: Civil War Teams Revealed

D23 revealed some amazing new Civil War information, further proving why it should be titled Avengers 3...

This weekend just gone played host to Disney's annual D23 convention, at which exciting new information, stills and concept art is released for their upcoming properties. Arguably one of the most exciting reveals by the house of mouse was the first look at Marvel's Captain America: Civil War. The film explores an ideological war that tears the Avengers in half. It's Iron Man v Captain America in the movie bonanza that's surely just as anticipated as the same year's Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Thankfully for us, despite the solid fix Disney has on leaks (not even a still has been posted online), we have managed to learn about the trailer's contents and some exciting new details! You have been warned though, minor spoilers lie ahead...
The first dose of exciting information actually comes from a report by Heroic Hollywood, but seems to have been at least partially confirmed from what we know of the Civil War trailer screened to D23 audiences. The two sides of Civil War are, reportedly, as follows:

Spider-man, Black Widow, Iron Man, War Machine, The Vision

The Winter Soldier, Ant-Man, Hawkeye, Captain America, The Falcon, Scarlet Witch

This is obviously very exciting for a number of reasons. Firstly, the fact that Spider-man will be on Team Iron Man suggests his role is not as minor as first thought. This is the first introduction of the web slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and so it will be very exciting to see his dynamic with the older Avengers cast. When Tom Holland was auditioning for the role, it was reported that he did scenes with Robert Downey Jr. too, so this could also suggest his close relationship with Iron Man.

Moreover, it seems odd at first glance that Black Widow has been separated from her apparent best friends Cap and Hawkeye. Natasha and Steve's friendship has been building strongly since the first Avengers, with The Winter Soldier solidifying it. Additionally, it was revealed in the first Avengers that Natasha and Clint have a long and complicated history, to which Natasha owes Clint a huge deal. Heck, even Clint's youngest son was named in honour of Black Widow - as was revealed in Age of Ultron - with his children calling her Aunty Nat! It will be very interesting to see this dynamic play out on our screens in what should be an emotional experience for both audiences and our screen heroes.

However, it is worth noting that the Civil War storyline has a reputation for plants and spies embedded in both sides. The main comic storyline alone had many twists and turns involving moles and double agents and so I wouldn't be surprised if some team members aren't all they say they are as the complex Civil War story unfolds.

What do you think of the new reveal from D23? Are you happy with the two sides, and whose side are you on? To read my review of Avengers: Age of Ultron or Captain America: The Winter Soldier, please click on the titles accordingly.
