This semi-rumour - which is now being taken as fact - may present itself in today's mystery Marvel announcement where it will likely be either confirmed or de-confirmed. I personally feel that it would be awkward for Feige and team NOT to mention it, as it is so big a rumour that it would manifest itself into a major elephant in the room.
For those unfamiliar with the character, I will summarise:
Doctor Strange - a.k.a Stephen Strange - was a world famous neurosurgeon who was quite the cocky sort of guy (much like Sherlock - another socially inept genius portrayed by Cumberbatch). One day he suffered a major accident which damaged his hands, meaning he could never operate again, so he locates The Ancient One who presides in the Himalayas in an effort to once more regain control of his hands. After months of training, Strange learns to harness mystical powers and explores the dream world in an attempt to cure himself while discarding his egotistical nature, hence the Sorcerer Supreme is born...
