Avengers: Age of Ultron - Who is the Scarlet Witch?

So Avengers: Age of Ultron is coming soon to cinemas around the world, and one new member of the team is turning some heads! Elizabeth Olsen made her on-screen début as the magic-wielding sorceress in the end-credits scene of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and  was referred to as a 'miracle' alongside her on-screen twin brother Quicksilver - played by Aaron Taylor Johnson - by Hydra boss Baron von Strucker.

In this article I will be taking you through the powers, affiliations and back-story of the Scarlet Witch (meaning there will be spoilers from the comics in this post). However this may result in very minor spoilers for the upcoming films in the MCU, but this is all speculation, so do not fear...

The Top Five Moments I'm Looking Forward to in Mockingjay Part 2

So, you've just gone and scene Mockingjay Part 1, you're buzzing about THAT end scene and you positively cannot wait to see its second half, Part 2.

Be warned though, this is going to be packed with spoiler for all four films in The Hunger Games franchise and I would only recommend reading if you have seen all the films up until now/ have read all the books. You're sure? Okay, let's begin...

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 Spoiler Review

It's the first review I've done here on JG Review for ages, but boy is this a good time to make a comeback...

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is the first of the two final instalments of the box office busting movie series. Despite Mockingjay being my least favourite book in the best selling trilogy by Suzanne Collins, I was overwhelmingly shocked and surprised at how much I adored this movie. The book itself is the shortest of the three, and so I was apprehensive that the content would not be there for the film to stand alone and strong. It seems though, that the screenwriters and director Francis Lawrence have masterfully expanded scenes in the book tat may have been briefly mentioned into five or ten minute action packed sequences. The tension was high and so were the stakes, so read on to hear more about my thoughts.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2 Speculation

CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR CATCHING FIRE AND MOCKINGJAY PARTS 1 AND 2

On thursday, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 will be released across the UK, and I sincerely cannot wait to see it. I remember seeing Catching Fire in the cinema very vividly. As you may recall from my review, the cinema erupted into applause not once, not twice but three times - something rare in the more conservative UK movie going audience. The cliff hanger of District 12's destruction was powerful despite me already having read the book, and so I will now try to discuss where I believe Mockingjay Part 1 should leave off...

Marvel Studios reveal ENTIRE Upcoming Slate for Phase 3

Marvel Studios honcho Kevin Feige has just wrapped his mystery Marvel event in Hollywood, the United States.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 Trailer Breakdown + Review

Wow...recently there has been an onslaught of new information, images and trailers for Mockingjay Part 1, and so I'd like to take this opportunity to repeat last year's Catching Fire trailer review

Be warned though, spoilers of all three books and all four movies lay ahead.

Benedict Cumberbatch is Doctor Strange!?

A huge announcement was leaked yesterday! It turns out that 2015's Doctor Strange movie will be fronted by none other that BBC fanboy favourite Benedict Cumberbatch!

Hollywood reporter Deadline announced yesterday that Marvel Studios was in final negotiations with Benedict Cumberbatch to portray the role of Doctor Strange. This took twitter by storm and is still trending today, over 24 hours later. It seems that the lack of announcements from Marvel Studios regarding their Marvel Cinematic Universe has made people thirsty for news.

Mystery Marvel Studios Announcement - October 28th 2014

Don't miss a very special Marvel Studios event tonight at 6pm UK time. Tune in for the Marvel live blog here http://bit.ly/1pRNIo0!
Our Top Ten Ideas on what the mystery announcement could be!

Yesterday Marvel released a cryptic message telling fans that today at 6pm, or 11am in the USA, there will be a huge Marvel Studios Announcement regarding the much-loved and well-respected Marvel Cinematic Universe. This has brought up a multitude of questions by fans, and speculation has run amok amongst the comic fandom. Therefore, I would like to offer my ideas about what the reveal could be, but be warned: spoilers from all films in the MCU and some comic book story lines will be intertwined with my theories.

Mockingjay Living Portraits: Peeta and Johanna

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is fast approaching, and due to the infamous San Diego Comic Con, more and more details are being released to the fans. Not only is the first official full length trailer being released for the film this friday, but today we have been given two excellent propaganda posters from the Capitol itself.

Peeta Mellark and Johanna Mason, two tributes involved in the rebellion that were captured and taken to the Capitol in the finale of Catching Fire, have been presented rather magnificently in 'LIVING PORTRAITS'. Click the link to see both of them, but be warned, your sound will need to be up! Prepare for an absolute treat...

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 Teaser Trailer Review

No. No. Wait. Shut up. No. Please. Peeta? No. Snow? No. Omfg. I can't even. No.

Okay guys, we all knew this day was coming. Despite being very 'hush-hush' about the latest in the Hunger Games series (this time last year, two teasers were already released for Catching Fire), Lionsgate has released a chilling address to the citizens of the districts of Panem from Mr Donald Sutherland, President Snow himself...

The Fault In Our Stars Movie Review

#TFIOS is trending worldwide. Everyone is crying. Tissues are out of stock. John Green has been knighted. One of these statements is untrue...probably...SPOILER FREE REVIEW

Shailene Woodley delivers a mesmerizing performence as teen cancer patient Hazel...

The Fault In Our Stars is a New York Times Bestseller, and has been for years. Therefore, it's inevitable movie adaptation has been massively anticipated by the young adult demographic, me included. I loved this book, and it truly changed my outlook on Cancer and the thought processes that these young people go through. In fact, this book has changed my mind on so many things, and I am grateful to John Green (an avid Youtuber) for writing such a meaningful book. I was over the moon then, when it became apparent that The Fault In Our Stars is the most faithful book to film adaptation I have perhaps ever seen. The script seemed to fall from the pages of the book itself, and even the settings were exactly how I imagined them in my head.

Top Ten Original Movie Songs

Well, you guys all know the deal by now. James here at JG Review has composed another "Top Ten" list...

Original Movie Songs are becomingly more popular than ever in today's Hollywood, and so this Top Ten will mainly be composed of more recent blockbuster hits, rather than the golden oldies we all know and love (although some old school compositions certainly make their appearance).Ready? Then let's begin...

Top Ten Disney Princesses

Recently, Disney brought about a Princess renaissance with many people across the world helping to make Frozen not only the greatest animated film of all time, but globally the fifth most successful movie ever. In 2018, the house that Walt built plans to release their third 3D animated fairytale "Moana", focusing on a Polynesian princess and the remote island she lives on, and before that Frozen 2 is sure to hit the silver screen.

Therefore, James here at JG Review has decided it is timely to create one of the most controversial Top Ten lists ever. We all have a favourite, but do you agree with ours? It's time to announce our Top Ten Disney Princesses...

Maleficent Movie Review

And I know it's true, that visions are seldom what they seem...

I've just seen Maleficent and found the film to be incredibly enjoyable. The film follows the young Maleficent as she grows in a world divided into the kingdoms of the fairies and men. She loves her forest and her greatest joy are her magnificent wings which can effortlessly carry her into the heavens with ease. When she meets a young boy named Stefan however, everything changes, and Maleficent's golden heart transforms into the monstrosity she is known as today...

X-MEN: Days of Future Past Movie Review

"Wolverine be like "On Your Left" to Captain America 2"

Yesterday I walked into a showing of the latest X-Men film. I had relatively small expectations because even though I loved X-Men First Class I was let down so much by X-Men III: The Last Stand and let's not even talk about X-Men Origins: Wolverine. However, while I was stuffing my face with toffees and chocolates, and the first scene rolled onto screen, something magical happened...

You just won't know who to trust when it comes to Captain America 2...

The Maze Runner Official Trailer: Trailer + Review

Okay, I think that I can see how cool this could be...

Dylan O' Brian stars in 2014's The Maze Runner

One of my favourite reviewers and overall YouTube personalities Ms Grace Randolph (Beyond the Trailer) recently reviewed this trailer, and stated that she received incredibly large 'Lord of the Flies' vibes from it. As a British guy, I recently read Lord of the Flies for my exams, and understand completely what she means. The Maze Runner seems to be the first young adult novel adaptation to not be for young adults, but merely to feature them. One of the key themes of 'Lord of the Flies' was that of Civilization vs. Savagery, something we can clearly see reflected in this, the first trailer, at 1:16 seconds where someone appears to be burning at the stake. To watch the trailer and read my review, click the link below...

Disney Maleficent Trailer 4 "Wings" - Trailer + Review

Angelina Jolie seems even more evil as each trailer for Maleficent is released...

"I had wings once. They were strong. They were stolen from me."

Angelina Jolie and young Elle Fanning are seriously beginning to create mega buzz for Disney's latest live action fairy-tale adaptation: Maleficent. Interestingly, this is only the first live action Disney princess move so far, with Universal's Snow White and the Huntsman beating them to it. Disney had mass success with Alice in Wonderland though, and Oz the Great and the Powerful wasn't far behind. Can the company earn huge bucks once again with this deliciously dark twist on Sleeping Beauty? Watch the trailer by clicking the link below and let us know what you think in the comments...

My Thoughts on the Call The Midwife Series 3 Finale

Spoilers ensue...

I'd like to state now that a review for Call the Midwife Series 3 will be up soon, but I personally felt like I wanted to give a response to this weeks Call the Midwife closing episode. It is for this reason that this update is to be in italics, showing how this is a personal and emotive response to the episodes events rather than a more un-biased review. I hope you enjoy this first of many 'reaction' posts...

Guardians of the Galaxy Official Trailer and Review

Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, John C. Reilly and Karen Gillan look set to impress this Summer...

Despite the darker palette, GotG looks just as funny as the Iron Man trilogy...

Chris Pratt sure is busy at the moment! Not only is he busy fighting Lord Business over in The Lego Movie, but he is also set to play Peter Quill in Marvel's upcoming blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy. To watch the official trailer and hear my thoughts on it, keep reading...

The Lego Movie Review

Can this winter flick from the team behind 21 Jump Street live up to the hype?

There's superb voice acting here, with Morgan Freeman just one of the big names taking part...

The winter months after Christmas are often one of the more relaxed periods in Hollywood, with not much coming to any cinema near you. It's always nice then, when a surprise gem is tucked away behind the mess. Yes, The Lego Movie is a gem. Buried underneath more mediocre option such as Hercules, Vampire Academy or Free Birds comes one of the most inventive animations since Pixar's beloved WALL-E and it surprisingly is more for teens than young kids.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier Trailer 2 - Review and Analysis

Steve Rogers seems to be able to handle his own movie as Marvel sets to rock the box office once more...

Chris Evans dons another Super Suit for his return in Captain America 2...

Wow, so the second trailer has finally been released for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and boy does it satisfy. Not only do we get a larger hint at the story of the spectacular blockbuster that is set to grace the silver screen come April 4th, but we see more from SHIELD boss Alexander Pierce (played by Robert Redford) and the Falcon (Anthony Mackie). It seems Scarlett Johansson's well-loved heroine, Black Widow, is also returning for a larger role than  initially expected, and, for me at least, Captain America 2 seems to be the Agents of SHIELD we all wanted.

JG Review: Coming Up Feb '14

Want to see what's coming your way this month?

Frozen Review

For a film full of snow, it sure does warm you up!

Elsa has the most spectacular musical number in the film: Let it Go

Anna and Elsa , the two new Disney princesses on the block, have taken the US by snow storm, and the rest of the world seem to be equally keen on the latest Disney Animation musical. With the recent release in Asia, and the $800 already made by Frozen, it seems sure to pass the $1 billion mark, making it the first Disney princess film to do so. Considering that the USA have just released aptly titled 'Sing-Along Engagements' to show in selected theatres too, Frozen in just a phenomenal success prompting Disney to consider a sequel and Broadway/West End musical version too. In short, it has become the last great hit of 2013 and the first smash of 2014.

New Maleficent Trailer - "Once Upon A Dream"

Super Mario 3D World Review

Were our E3 impressions cemented as the truth, or has Nintendo surprised us all once again?

MINOR SPOILERS ENSUE...

New ideas and moves make this an incredibly entertaining game...

We couldn't have seen it coming. When Nintendo announced the next Super Mario 3D (insert synonym here) game would be the next 3D home console Mario game, and the first HD 3D one at that, people were displeased to say the least. In fact, the apprehension shown dampened the potential excitement for the game. In the reveal trailer, Mario looked rounder than usual and over tanned, and in all honesty the game looked like a hi-res version of it's 3DS predecessor. However...

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug HFR IMAX 3D Movie Review

Hollywood's fifth journey into Middle-Earth proves to be a must see for critics and fan boys alike...

SPOILERS FOR THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG (PART 2)

Smaug is immense, majestic and a spectacular addition to the Hobbit trilogy...

By Gandalf's beard this film is good. The sequel to the first Hobbit flick, An Unexpected Journey, The Desolation of Smaug is vast, rich and full of impressive visuals and music. Building on this was my first venture into the world of High Frame Rate cinema (or HFR for short), but more on that later. You may have found the first Hobbit film disappointing and aren't sure about this Blockbuster sequel, I urge you to revisit Dol Guldur, the Shire, Bree and the Lonely Mountain once more, as this three hour flick is such a huge improvement on it's predecessor that it left me wanting to immediately watch it again.
