Mystery Marvel Studios Announcement - October 28th 2014

Don't miss a very special Marvel Studios event tonight at 6pm UK time. Tune in for the Marvel live blog here http://bit.ly/1pRNIo0!
Our Top Ten Ideas on what the mystery announcement could be!

Yesterday Marvel released a cryptic message telling fans that today at 6pm, or 11am in the USA, there will be a huge Marvel Studios Announcement regarding the much-loved and well-respected Marvel Cinematic Universe. This has brought up a multitude of questions by fans, and speculation has run amok amongst the comic fandom. Therefore, I would like to offer my ideas about what the reveal could be, but be warned: spoilers from all films in the MCU and some comic book story lines will be intertwined with my theories.

UPDATE! ALL MY CORRECT THEORIES WILL BE HIGHLIGHTED IN RED! CHECK OUT MY IN DEPTH COVERAGE OF THE EVENT ON OUR OFFICIAL FACEBOOK PAGE!

10 - A Black Widow Stand-alone film
Perhaps one of the most realistic entries on this list, a Black Widow movie certainly would appease most fans, and could be an excellent response to DC's very recent announcement of a Wonder Woman movie. With her new pumped-up suit set to be revealed in the Avengers: Age of Ultron, and ScarJo's recent smash hit Lucy, a much wanted Black Widow movie would be a sure fire hit for Marvel.

Kevin Feige has stated there will not be a Black Widow solo film for quite some time, but has assured us that although her roles will be in the Avengers films, they will be central to the plot...

9 - Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange

This would be a fantastic reveal as fans were clearly confused as to why the actor behind the creepy comic book staple wasn't revealed at the San Diego Comic Con. It turns out that Joaquin Pheonix turned down the role, and only yesterday did it leak that fanboy favourite Benedict Cumberbatch was in final talks to take up the cape. This would mean that Marvel have picked the perfect time to reveal who will be playing Dr Strange, but the leak could mean it will be a different announcement.

It seems Marvel are being very tight lipped about who's going to play this collared supe'.

8 - Black Panther Casting Announcement

Eagle eyed fans spotted Andy Serkis in the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer. Not only that, but he seemed to be dressed awfully alot like Ulysses Klaw, who hardcore Marvel fans will know played a vital role in the origin story of Black Panther. Fans have been clamoring for Black Panther to join the MCU, partner this with the Wakandan Easter Egg in Iron Man 2, Kevin Feige's self-professed love of the character, the Johannesburg shoot in Avengers 2 and the fact that in Avengers: Age of Ultron Cap's shield breaks (in the comics, Black Panther is the one who fixes Cap's shield when it breaks as Wakanda - his South African home - offers a natural reserve of Vibranium), it seems Black Panther is almost ready to enter the MCU.

7 - The Winter Soldier Joins the Avengers
Chris Evans has recently stated that he doesn't wish to portray Captain America on screen for much longer, and in the comic book storyline the recently introduced Winter Soldier takes over the role. If the rumours are correct and Marvel Civil War begins in Avengers: Age of Ultron and continues in Captain America 3, there wont be much time for Steve Rogers to track down the Winter Soldier, so maybe he'll just appear in Avengers 2/3 anyway? Only time will tell...

This has been neither denied nor confirmed by Marvel Studios, but Sebastian Stan has signed a 9 picture deal so despite Captain America 3 being Civil War, we're sure he'll turn up very soon...

6 - Ant Man News

One of the next films in the MCU is Ant-Man. There was a lot of commotion surrounding the film when it was revealed Edgar Wright was kicked off the director's seat and several cast members left the film. However, with a new director and the introduction of Ant Man and the Wasp (Comic book history's most controversial couple) it seems Marvel needs to start releasing some info about their latest franchise debut.

Well, the logo and date of release were revealed but nothing that we haven't already seen!

5 - The New Avengers

As aforementioned, the prevailing theory is that the MCU is about to turn to sh*t in the silver screen adaptation of the infamous crossover event Civil War. The theory includes that the end credits scene will involve Cap assembling his team - the New Avengers, perhaps featuring The Falcon, Mockingbird (who was yesterday introduced in Agents of SHIELD), Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, The Wasp and Wanda and Pietro, the Inhuman twins. Marvel may be wary that casting of these superheroes could be leaked and so may announce the group along with concept art in order to beat leakers to the chase and break the blogger-sphere as a result.

4 - The Inhumans
Another now much accepted theory is that of the Inhumans. Kevin Feige has expressed his deep love for this race, and they could hold the key to being the MCU's answer to Mutants - a species owned by Fox along with the X-Men characters. It has been speculated that Wanda and Pietro Maximoff will infact be Inhuman (as opposed to Mutants as they are in the comics), an idea cemented in their apparent Hyrda lab-rodent past where they may have been exposed to the Terrigen mists. Moreover, it seems Skye and Coulson may be Inhuman themselves, and so the announcement that Inhumans will be joining the official Marvel Cinematic Universe does not seems bizarre as Marvel have clearly been laying their groundwork for years.

3 - The Civil War Storyline meets the MCU

Although the recent ideas somewhat depend on the Civil War story line being implemented into the MCU, just this announcement alone would send the Marvel community on fire. This could explain why no major film titles have been announced past 2015/6 - Kevin Feige recently said that their names would reveal the direction they were heading in in terms of story. This would also fit with the plots started in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, as Steve Rogers struggles with the modern government's idea of freedom and Tony Stark's Avenger's Peacekeeping bots that will be introduced in Age of Ultron and lead to Ultron's birth. Moreover, it was also revealed in Cap 2 that Stark was aware of - and supported -  the Helicarrier Program, meaning the differences in ideals that kicked off Civil War have already been set up by the MCU.

2 - Spider-man joins the MCU

Let's face it, SONY is a company in a bit of trouble. The Amazing Spider-Man franchise also isn't doing too well either due to an incredibly disappointing second entry into the franchise and over the top advertisement campaign. It was rumoured a few months ago that Disney and Sony were in talks to bring Spider-Man into the Avengers Universe, and this is supported by the confirmation that the OSCORP tower was originally supposed to show up in the first Avengers movie. In addition to this, Disney and Sony have a very good working relationship, and Spider-Man is a vital character in the Civil War storyline. Maybe we fan's dreams are about to become a reality - is Marvel Studios about to get Spidey back?

No word on the return of Spidey as of yet...but there's still plenty of time!!

1 - Entire Upcoming Marvel Slate Announced

It was quite embarrassing this year that Marvel barely announced anything at San Diego comic con, when compared to DC's revelation of Wonder Woman, the Justice League and their own plans for the future. In the same vein, DC recently just announced their entire packed and crowded upcoming slate, and so Marvel now has the opportunity to fight back and win the headlines attention. This would also reveal the direction that the MCU will be taking going forward. Will it be Civil War, will the Thanos Complex be the road they take, or will the Secret Wars influence the future films? It seems we'll just have to wait and see...

What do you think Marvel will shortly announce? Do you have your own theory, or do you agree with one of my Top Ten ideas?
